The 15th of November in 2011 was the last day of my treatment for brain cancer. The last day of radiation to my brain, and the day that marked the end of my treatment, which included five brain surgeries, two rounds of chemotherapy, and 35 days of radiation.

This year marks 14 years since I finished treatment. 14 years of learning how to adjust my life to the impact brain cancer has had on the many areas of my life. Being diagnosed at only 11 means I have now lived longer dealing with the impact of cancer than I ever did without it.

The hardest part?? I am not alone. 

Brain cancer kills more children in Australia than any other disease! During my treatment, I saw many kids, most of the time younger than myself, going through gruelling treatment, and heartbreakingly, some who didn't survive. 

This year, I wanted to do something different to celebrate the 14 years I’ve been so fortunate to live.
So, I’m inviting you to join me in celebrating 14 years cancer-free while raising money for the Brainchild Foundation.

When I was diagnosed, Brainchild was a new foundation dedicated to supporting families with children facing brain and spinal cord tumours.
Their support meant the world to my family — from financial assistance to family retreats where we met others who understood, to tutoring that helped me catch up on the schooling I missed during treatment.

Today, Brainchild continues to provide vital family support while also funding crucial research into childhood brain cancer. They’re truly making a difference.

I will be holding a BBQ/Picnic in the park to celebrate and raise money. Everyone is welcome to join in! Bring along a chair or blanket, your swimmers, some food or drinks to share, and don't forget to donate through my GiveNow fundraising page. This will be a very casual event held at Glen Retreat Park in Marcoola. There are park tables, an open green space for picnic rugs, and beach access at the end of the park.
