Hi everyone, my name is Shayla Lazzarotto and I am currently in Year 11 at Nagle Catholic College. Over the winter school holidays, I took up the amazing opportunity to travel to Timor-Leste with Ben and Lauren from The Cagliero Project. During the two weeks, I had the privilege of meeting and working with so many young people from Salesian communities. The Timorese community was so kind and welcoming. I learnt so much from this experience and it is something that I will never forget.
One of the places we were fortunate enough to visit on our trip was called Laga. Laga is about 4 hours away from Timor’s capital city, Dili. There is a Don Bosco school in Laga with 618 students and 42 staff who are in need of a new 10,000 LTR water tank and refurbishments to the bathroom facilities. Currently, the school only has one functional toilet block, with an additional toilet block unable to be used due to the lack of safe water. As you can imagine, this is very challenging for a school with such large numbers. All money raised will be going towards a new water tank.
The Salesians of Don Bosco are the #1 non-governmental education provider in Timor, running more than 70 schools, youth centres and training facilities. Salesians provide education, meals, medical care and community support to thousands of children each year.
Salesian Missions Australia will be matching dollar-for-dollar for every donation that is made, for up to $5,500 raised. This means that my fundraiser will go twice as far!
Also, I would be very grateful for you to share the link to this CrowdRaiser page to your friends and family. The more people who can help the better! I appreciate every donation made, big or small, every one makes a difference!
Thank you
