The Let's Talk Foundation works in partnership with communities throughout regional Australia to reduce stigma, encourage help seeking, and increase awareness about mental health issues.
Let's Talk was founded in 2017 by two parents in South West Victoria who lost their son to suicide. Following their loss, Mick and Jane wanted to find a way to reduce the risk of other community members losing their lives to suicide, and of other families and friends experiencing this awful loss. Together with local mental health worker "Parky", and a growing group of dedicated supporters - they formed a local, community-led movement that has already had a hugely positive impact on local mental health outcomes.
Our primary objective is to work together with our local partner communities to improve both individual and community-level mental health outcomes – including reducing rates of death by suicide. To achieve this, a team of dedicated Let's Talk staff and volunteers in each of our local partner communities works together with local health services, mental health organisations, and community groups to identify local needs; and to develop and deliver tailored, targeted programs and presentations that address these local needs. As a non-clinical organisation, we focus on developing and delivering population-level preventative mental health programs, as well as participating in collaborative mental health groups and activities with other clinical and non-clinical organisations.
