RISE eX-detainees was founded by an eX-detainee and is fully governed and run by eX-detainee refugees—this makes us unique and separates us from other refugee organisations. The number of eX-detainees needing our services continues during a severe housing and cost of living crisis, and for over 30 years, the cruelty of detention or systemic oppression towards eX-detainee refugees has not stopped in so-called Australia. Your support will allow us to continue challenging the harmful and xenophobic refugee policies and discourse which surround eX-detainee refugees and asylum seekers and pervade social and political spheres both locally and globally.

RISE eX-detainees does not take government grants, including federal, state, or local, so we can remain independent, ethical, and, as a result, we rely heavily on public donations to ensure that we are able to continue meeting the needs of our members and to assist those who fall through the cracks of the system. This empowers us to conduct campaigns and hold our oppressors accountable. Further, RISE eX-detainees advocates for an essential national and international change in the narrative that continues to dehumanise refugees seeking asylum by boat. RISE eX-detainees will always push for eX-detainee self-determination, and eX-detainee refugees -led campaigns and projects.
