Latest Kerala Humanitarian Relief Assistance

On the 30th of July, landslides in Wayanad district, Kerala, have claimed over 400 lives and left hundreds missing. The disaster has struck with overwhelming force, leaving entire communities in ruins and thousands displaced.

Fr George PS from Bangalore visited the site and reports:

Don Bosco College Sulthan Bathery is close to the crisis and is stepping up to offer crucial support. It is focused on providing immediate relief to those affected, efforts include distributing essential supplies, coordinating rescue operations, and planning for long-term recovery. Student Volunteers, staff and Salesian Priests and Brothers are supporting over 15 relief camps with essentials. All have been tirelessly working with government rescue teams at the epicentre aiding relief and rescue operations.

With the daunting task ahead, Don Bosco College has co-ordinated teams for the cleaning of debris and reconstruction wherever needed. The situation remains dire as rescue teams grapple with the scale of the destruction. However, Don Bosco College, Sulthan Bathery remains steadfast in its mission to bring aid and restore hope to the residents of Wayanad. We are grateful for any assistance as help will be required for some time.

How will the funds be used?
The funds will be used to provide relief support to the many who refuge and assistance from the Don Bosco Community’s and Schools in the affected Regions.

Current Outreach programs include:

  • The distribution of water, food, protective equipment hygiene items, medical supplies and general supplies to the poor and needy.
  • The supply of accommodation and shelter for displaced persons.
