I am raising funds for Brainchild Foundation and Children's Cancer Institute Australia for Medical Research.
In July 2024, our 2 year old daughter Elenna, was diagnosed with Medulloblastoma, a high-risk metastatic brain cancer.
We immediately flew from Townsville to Briabane, to our new home, at the Queensland Children's Hospital.
In the beginning Elenna was vomitting multiple times a day, reaching for items and completely missing them, going cross-eyed, and covering her eyes to shield from the discomfort of light.
Elenna underwent 2 brain surgeries, couldn't stand due to pain in her spine, and lost the ability to walk for several weeks. It took many months before her vomitting reduced. She now has a permanent shunt in her head to help with pressure and drainage.
She received 6 months of intense chemotherapy. Went through many grueling hurdles, including multiple visits to the ED, weeks (and months) long stays in hospital, a night in PICU being treated for urosepsis, daily needles, numerous tube's attached to her, and more.
A 2 year old should never have to endure these things. She will have long term effects from treatment for the rest of her life, including hearing loss and infertility.
She is now awaiting her 3rd birthday in March, before starting radiation treatment. Radiation to the brain and spine comes with many side effects of its own, both short term and long term.
It was a hope of ours that Elenna could avoid radiation treatment, but the MRI scans continue to show metastases in her brain and spine.
We want more than anything for Elenna to be cured of cancer. To live a long and happy life.
Please help us raise vital funds for childhood cancer research, so other children and families don’t have to go through what we’ve been through.
